Michigan’s Medicaid adult dental program provides access to affordable, quality dental care for low-income adults, seniors and veterans across Michigan. As the state budget process unfolds, some lawmakers are looking at cuts and changes to this proven and effective program, which could put hundreds of thousands of Michiganders at risk of losing access to affordable and vital dental care. Michigan’s Medicaid adult dental program provides quality dental care to low-income adults, including seniors and veterans. As part of state budget negotiations, some Michigan lawmakers are considering to eliminate certain treatment options, such as:
This will negatively impact the health of the most vulnerable Michiganders. In addition, by compromising the health of potential job applicants, these cuts would limit our state's workforce. Research shows that lack of access to preventative dental care can lead to worse healthcare outcomes overall, and increase the possibility that dangerous infections and other diseases will spread.
